CARLOS AGUIRRE PIANIST GUITARIST SINGER

ARGENTINA

A native of the Litoral region of northeastern Argentina, Carlos Aguirre has absorbed the sounds and rhythms not only of his youth but also those of other regions of South America and transformed them into new compositions which retain the old folkloric flavors as they crystallize their essence. Whether at the piano or with a guitar in his hands, whether singing or improvising, he gently evokes the spirits of these places, especially the rivers including the Paraná which flows by his home today. In his U.S. debut in 2015, a reviewer said that he "stole our hearts" and noted that he "is known as one of Argentina's most contemporary musicians." A tribute to his creative vision, many of his works are widely performed by others and recognized by an array of awards. Grateful to be appreciated but humble in his work, he presses forward in the unending joy of studying and interpreting the vast wealth of South American music.

PRESS QUOTES

"There are few artists in Argentine music who have forged such an influential, yet handcrafted and self-managed, path as Carlos Aguirre. 'El Negro,' as he is popularly known, has managed, through his piano, his voice, his compositions, and above all, his diverse aesthetic and artistic stances, to chart a course and even define a style. 'This sounds very Negro Aguirre,' is a phrase often heard among musicians of that broad and difficult-to-categorize fusions of folk, classical, jazz, and world music."

ANDRÉS FUNDUNKLIAN, LA VOZ DEL INTERIOR (ARGENTINA)

"'Music to listen to and uplight the spirit' could be the imaginary label used to define this musician from Entre Ríos with four decades of experience and more than 30 albums in his history ..."

JUAN MANUEL MANNARINO, LA NACIÓN (ARGENTINA)

"A complete and perfect soloist: voice, piano, and arrangements in inseparable unity, yet simultaneously inhabited by the dialogue between a pianist and his own voice."

SERGIO PUJOL, REVISTA OTRA PARTE (ARGENTINA)

“He sails through this geography with his piano, crossing borders that are less and less precise, searching for the keys that open the doors to new worlds of sound.”
JORGE BELANUNZARÁN, REVISTA VEINTITRÉS / ASTERISCO (ARGENTINA)

"A mentor of dreams, he is one of the most sought-after project creators in the country."
JUAN MANUEL MANNARINO, LA NACIÓN (ARGENTINA)

"As an instrumentalist, Carlos Enrique Aguirre reveals his immense sensitivity by the third bar of the very first song he plays, whether accompanying his voice with piano or guitar. He is capable of creating a deeply personal synthesis of a vast musical legacy -- drawing not only from his native Argentina but from the entire Latin American continent -- as dozens of rhythms and melodies flow through his musical waters and landscapes."
SANTI ECHEVERRÍA, DIARIO DE NAVARRA (SPAIN)

“Aguirre's effortless, flowing music rested squarely in the heart ... As for the pieces themselves, they ranged from tunes that the average listener would recognize as distinctly South American ... as well as pieces that had a strong classical influence. Every single one was just beautiful.”

"... among the most personal and creative of recent generations ..."
