HÅKON KORNSTAD
THE TENOR WHO PLAYS TENOR
2026 U.S. SOLO TOUR
NORWAY

Håkon Kornstad returns to the U.S. for his first visit since 2017. An artist of exceptional creative drive, he rose to the pinnacle of the Scandinavian jazz scene on the force of his tenor sax sound and lyricism, then fell in love with opera on a trip to New York, graduated from the Oslo Academy of Opera as its oldest student ever, and merged his jazz and opera in an unprecedented and beautiful way. Using a looping device to create his own accompaniment as he stands before his audience, his concerts unfold like a slowly blossoming flower with each moment unlike the one before, journeying from his exquisite tenor saxophone sound and technique to mesmerizing solos over his one-man-looper-orchestra whether on the tenor, his "flutonette," or whistling, and then culminating with his stunning operatic tenor voice. As a reviewer for the Charleston City Paper put it, "By all rights, no one person should possess as many musical talents as Håkon Kornstad. Masterfully trained in all of his disparate disciplines, Kornstad treated each element of his show with utter seriousness - and yet the result didn't seem like a struggle, but a joy." John Fordham of The Guardian summed it up: "It could have been a virtuosic circus act, but in Kornstad's hands was a musical tour de force."
